Is Taylor Swift’s New Song ‘Dress’ About Ed Sheeran?
Taylor Swift’s song “Dress” is about the anticipation of physically being with a partner but online, some fans have suspected that the 27-year-old singer actually wrote the track about her longtime friend, Ed Sheeran.
While Swift’s relationship with Sheeran has been strictly platonic since it began years ago, a lot of her fans and followers are convinced that he may have inspired the song, mainly due to the main line of the track’s chorus.
Does Taylor Swift reference Ed Sheeran in ‘Dress’?
“I don’t want you like a best friend, only bought this dress so you could take it off,” Swift sings.
Not only does Swift mention the idea of a “best friend,” which Sheeran has been rumored to be to her for years, she also seemingly gives a nod to his song, “Shape of You,” when she sings, “There’s an indentation, in the shape of you.”
While Swift, in true fashion, hasn’t said a thing about who inspired the song, she did include Sheeran on her album after teaming up on “End Game” with rapper Future.
What does Ed Sheeran think of the rumors?
During an Instagram live chat, according to a report by Hollywood Life on November 15, a Singapore reporter asked Sheeran how he felt about the possibility of “Dress” being about him and right away, he made it clear that he did not think it was possible that he inspired the track. As he explained, he doesn’t think the song is about him and noted that one of her lyrics mentions a guy with a buzz cut, which he’s never had.
As for who has had a buzz cut, that would be Swift’s current boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, who she’s been dating for the past several months.
