Taylor Swift Song of the Week: “Call It What You Want”
By Kara Johnson
It’s release week, so why not feature a new track from reputation for our song of the week? This week, it’s “Call It What You Want”.
After waiting three years for new music from Taylor Swift, we finally have it. While we may not be getting a brand new album until Friday, November 10, we still have four songs to listen to on repeat until then. Our song that’s on loop this week is ‘Call It What You Want”. It’s different than the other songs we’ve heard but it’s certainly one of our favorites.
“My castle crumbled over night / I brought a knife to a gun fight,” Swift sings in mid-tempo as the track starts in a dream like state. “They took the crown but it’s alright,” she continues. Her voice has grown exceptionally since 1989 and her writing has become sharper and more emotionally complex. This growth and maturity is displayed perfectly throughout the track and has immediately become a fan favorite from the four songs we’ve heard so far.
Throughout the track, Swift strongly implies that she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks because she has someone who loves her and knows her. It’s a strong testament to where she is in life right now, and makes it one of the best love songs Swift has ever written. “And I know I make the same mistakes every time, bridges burned, I never learn. At least I did one thing right,” the lyrics continue. “I did one thing right.” Lyrically, the track is beautiful along with her new and flawless sound.
We cannot wait to hear the rest of the album but until then, “Call It What You Want” will be on repeat. Watch the lyric video for the song below:
Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album reputation is set to hit stores and streaming services everywhere on November 10. Are you ready for it?
