How to Get Away with Murder season 4: Why is Annalise hurt, and who hurt her?
It’s finally time to ask: Who injured Annalise in How to Get Away with Murder’s flash-forward, and why did they do that? Here’s our theory.
Let’s just get straight to it: We have a sneaking suspicion that Bonnie plays more of a role in the flash-forward on How to Get Away with Murder than the show’s been letting on so far in season 4. Specifically, we think she’s more tied to Annalise being bloody in the shower, as revealed on last week’s episode, than just investigating the crime. Why do we say this?
Bonnie is, among all the characters on the show, the most uniquely suited to actually cover up the crime effectively thanks to her position in the D.A.’s office. She also has ties to Annalise that still refuse to be broken. The Bonnie we’ve seen over the course of the season is a Bonnie that’s slowly spiraling downwards and still has some very complex feelings for Annalise. Additionally, despite her efforts to move on, Annalise has still profoundly affected Bonnie’s new work. That has to weigh on a character, even one who says she still loves Annalise.
It’s enough to make us think that Bonnie might very well commit a crime, but instead of protecting Annalise, it might be Bonnie’s attempt to rid the world of her once and for all. Bonnie’s capable of murder already.
Does Annalise’s bleeding out tie in to Laurel’s hospital stay? Not necessarily. Isaac’s call to Annalise includes the words “she’s awake,” which suggests that (presumably) Laurel’s being awake actually matters somehow to Annalise. However, whatever or whoever put Laurel in the hospital might not exactly have intended to put Annalise in the hospital, too.
Then again, Bonnie might very well have a vested interest in harming Laurel, too, after Frank’s character turn that we noted has continued to evolve, even in this past episode.
