Halloween and Harry Potter: Why are they sometimes synonymous?

The Harry Potter series doesn’t take place exclusively during Halloween yet this time of year is a big get for Potter fans. Why is that?

Halloween is always a wonderful time to be a fan of the Harry Potter series. Whether you’re dressing up as your favorite character or you’re watching the movies, the spirit of the series is alive and well this time of year. But why exactly?

It’s always fascinating to me because the series does not specifically say that it is part of Halloween. Other than the troll being in the dungeon and a few other mentions of the holiday, the series doesn’t take place exclusively during fall.

Maybe it reminds us of Halloween because they’re witches and wizards, costumes that typically line the streets on days like today, but it is strange that we’re all so focused on the festive season and we don’t really think about how the series doesn’t really apply to this time of year.

Maybe it’s just our way of trying to connect to a series we love at any given moment. Something that I agree with. Often, we just want to think about our favorite movies and books so we try and make them relevant. Is that what we’re doing by pin-pointing that the Harry Potter series should be watched during this time of year?

I think we do it every time of year (Christmas time being another one that comes to mind) because when we’re all locked up in our homes for winter, we want nothing more than to bundle up and enjoy the world of Harry Potter.

So yes, the series might not be exclusive to today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it! So go out there tonight and watch the Harry Potter movies if you want. No one is stopping you and no one should! We can love Harry and his friends whenever we want!
