Should we truly hate the Slytherins or was it all just Rowling’s fault?

We’ve always come to know the Slytherins as the bad house. But maybe it wasn’t entirely our fault as to why we love to hate them.

Slytherins are deemed the ‘evil’ house at Hogwarts. Why? Well, Mugglenet points out that Rowling kind of gave us that idea. First of all, Hagrid literally sat there and told us that every single bad witch and wizard came out of Slytherin.

Pretty damning evidence right? More than that, Harry hated them. And we’re seeing the story through Harry so if he vehemently hates Slytherin, then we tend to hate them as well. It’s just a terrible circle that we can’t really get out of.

So the real question is: should we hate all Slytherins? Obviously, no. They’re just cunning in their ways just like the Gryffindors are brave, the Hufflepuffs are loyal and the Ravenclaws are smart. But there’s more to them than just those qualities.

That’s what is so fun about the Hogwarts houses. They’re somewhat limiting in their description of who should be in each house but it is clear that the Sorting Hat looks into each individual and truly finds a perfect fit for them.

So maybe there were some bad eggs in Slytherin, there were probably bad eggs in every house too. You can’t expect every single Death Eater to have been a Slytherin and even if they were, that’s not all Slytherins.

In the end, maybe they’re just misunderstood and we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about them based on a few terrible stories.
