15 top Halloween movie crushes, past and present

6. Christian Bale — American Psycho (2000)
When picking a Halloween costume, sometimes less is more terrifying. Patrick Bateman is one of the easiest costumes to put together and, though he’s not technically from a Halloween movie, one of the scariest.
True, American Psycho isn’t Halloween-centric. The film is actually considered a dark comedy — in this case, very dark — but it’s still a perfect choice for All Hallows’ Eve, especially for those who like to include blood in their decorations. It’s the story of Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banker, played by Christian Bale.
But he’s not just a banker. Bateman is actually a psychotic serial killer, driven to murder by things like his coworkers’ superior business cards (seriously). It’s a far cry from Christian Bale’s turn as the Dark Knight.
Still, it’s Christian Bale. He may be playing a deeply disturbed man, but not an unattractive man. In fact, it’s nice to see Bale utilizing his humorous side, as opposed to his usually very serious characters.
It almost didn’t happen though. When Christian Bale was offered the role of Patrick Bateman, he had most people telling him not to take it. According to the movie’s director, Mary Harron, “he said he had all these messages on his answering machine telling him this was career suicide.”
It seemed Hollywood itself didn’t want Bale to become Bateman, as Leonardo DiCaprio was cast in the role. But eventually, the movie did come back to Christian Bale and, as a result, we have the perfect psychopath who is at least nice to look at.
