Lions, and tigers, and bears … and dogs! Oh my! There’s nothing wrong with sticking with a classic. And nothing gets more classic when it comes to pop culture than The Wizard of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz is an obvious but perfect Halloween dog costume. Seriously, the owner’s Dorothy and the pup is Toto. There. Done. It’s easy, but still incredibly cute and effective. Just make sure Miss Almira Gulch doesn’t get her hands on him! There are also costumes where you can dress your dog up as Dorothy or Glinda instead.

Some dog owners do get more creative with their dog Wizard of Oz costumes though. And the results are amazing.

I’ve seen some extraordinary group Wizard of Oz inspired Halloween costumes with dogs. People dress up as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man. You can even add a Wicked Witch of the West in there. Then they dress their dog up in a lion Halloween costume and the dog joins the group as the Cowardly Lion. It’s incredibly adorable. Or if there are more people, another person goes as the Cowardly Lion while the dog goes as Toto. Either way, it’s a super cute tribute to a classic film.
