The Harry Potter generation and world politics

When it comes to politics, everyone has an opinion but some are louder than others. Most the louder ones tend to be Harry Potter fans.

Politics seem to have bled their way into our waking moments anymore. No matter what we do, they tend to be on the brain. And that’s generally a bad thing. Or at least it is for me. I liked when politics were on the backburner and we could focus our time and energy on something else.

But since we’re stuck in the way of the world, it is fun to examine why that is. Mainly it is because we, as Harry Potter fans, want our world to be better. A message that we learned from Rowling. Now, you can have whatever political views you want.

What’s more important is that the message of Potter is what we’re aiming for. We want a world free of the fear that encompasses the wizarding world under Voldemort’s reign. We want our world to be free and let us live our lives however we want.

I think sometimes we’re so bogged down in the “well you can’t like this candidate, they’re like Voldemort” that we’re forgetting what’s the really important message here. We, as fans of this series, should aim to carry on the vision that Harry (and therefore Rowling) had.

No one is alone and no one should feel that way and Harry strives to end the war to make sure others don’t have to live through what he and his friends did.

So while we’re all pretty tired of politics, at least it is nice to know that applying them to the Harry Potter series isn’t as bad as we all thought it could be. Trust me, it could have been bad.
