Star Trek: Discovery season 1 episode 6 Lethe

In the sixth episode of the season, Star Trek: Discovery takes on some of the Vulcans because of Sarek. And it is a little questionable.

Star Trek: Discovery spent the entire episode looking for Sarek. When he gets attacked by someone who is against his beliefs in bringing humans to the Vulcans, Michael and her connection to him lead to her taking the crew of the Discovery to find him.

Before we get into Sarek, there was a lovely moment where Tilly and Michael finally become friends. They are working on their health and fitness to try and get to the captain’s chair. The way the two interact with each other throughout the entire episode is cute and fun and I truly love their budding friendship.

Sarek likes humans

Sarek is obsessed with humans but also what else is new? He literally married a human. But apparently the Vulcans aren’t into it. And at one point, a man calls Spock one of Sarek’s experiments and we learn that he has to choose which one of his children get to go into the Vulcan academy.

Obviously he chose Spock who turned around and peaced out for Starfleet. Pretty funny, right? But he was the first Vulcan to join Starfleet so it is a good thing. Well, unless you’re Discovery and you just throw Vulcans into Starfleet all willy-nilly.

Look, I get it. Spock has been on the Enterprise three years already by the time that the Discovery is happening but that doesn’t mean that there are a million Vulcans in Starfleet at that point.

I just think it is dragging down Spock’s accomplishments to bring Vulcans into the show and place them on Starfleet.

Was this episode good? Yes, I think it is starting to show us more and more of how Discovery is going to be. I just wish there was more humor to the show. Everything is so serious and I miss the iconic back and forth we got with the original series.
