Poldark season 3: 3 questions for episode 4

As Poldark season 3 continues, there are still mysteries to be solve and answers to be given as to what exactly is going on this season.

After an episode that included scenes that had us completely confused until we took a moment to parse out the underlying meaningPoldark is back with episode 4 of season 3 this weekend, and we’re back with our biggest questions about what’s next in the show.

Is the famine going to be a continuing issue?

One grain shipment probably isn’t enough to get everyone in the county through the winter, although Poldark had some throwaway lines that seemed to indicate that Demelza, Caroline, and Ross’ plan had solved the problem. What about the people who didn’t get the chance to buy the grain, though?

This season has done a lot of work examining some class issues in terms of class relations, mostly through the vehicle of George Warleggan. Lest we forget, his purchasing grain and hoarding it causes the whole problem in the first place in episode 3.

In that way, the grain shortage is more symptomatic rather than a full-blown problem all on its own.

Is Morwenna’s reprieve temporary?

Okay, the answer to this one is probably more like a flat-out “yes.” Really, it seems like Drake and Morwenna are doomed, especially with all of those dramatic shots of her looking at the bracelet he made her and her inability to hide her delight when Elizabeth tells her she’s going back to Trenwith. Poldark doesn’t let its characters be happy for very long, after all.

We’ve already had a baptism in this season, as well as plenty of church drama in general. A wedding seems practically inevitable.

What’s Caroline’s next cause?

With her stymied when it comes to rescuing Dwight (which we know thanks to Ross, but which she may not just yet), and with the charity situation still up in the air, what’s next for Caroline to put her money to work at?

So far this season, the show has done a good job of keeping her looped in because of her friendship with Demelza and Ross (albeit mostly Demelza). How will that play out this week?

Also, if Dwight is Clowance’s godfather, does that make Caroline her godmother? Please let this be true, Poldark. It would be amazing for a multitude of reasons, namely that if Clowance grows up, she will have Demelza and Caroline as influences and will thus probably be even more fantastic than they already are.
