The Candy Corn debate: Should it be Halloween centric?

facebooktwitterreddit

It is the fall season and candy corn is out and about, but should we have Halloween-themed versions of the treat? My verdict: No.

Look, I get it, everyone likes candy corn. I might be the oddball out here, but that’s not my favorite candy. Whether or not I like it, though, is not the point. Basically here’s my problem: why do we need Halloween-centric candy corn?

Let’s stop and think about it for a second. When else do we have the treat? Not during Christmas, certainly not at Easter, and there is no point during the summer where we are itchy to buy candy corn in the store.

So really, it is just at Halloween (or during the fall season) when we really want it. Meaning it is already a Halloween treat. So why in the world are there vampire fang candy corns out there? Despite my distrust of the candy (why do I want to eat something that looks like corn but isn’t? I would just have some corn), this logic of ‘Halloween themed’ candy only makes a little sense.

Like, for example, Halloween centric Kit-Kats are fun. Because 9 times out of 10, you’re just buying regular Kit-Kats. But at Halloween, they have fun witches and pumpkins and bats. How fun!

But with candy corn, I just feel like it is so specific to fall and Halloween that it is almost idiotic to try and make it even more so. We don’t need vampire looking corns or to have them look like Frankenstein’s Monster’s bolts.

When it comes to our favorite Halloween candy, I think that those that are specific to the holiday do not need to change. That’s like an Easter Peep getting painted to look like an egg. It’s unnecessary. Leave my candy corns alone!
