How to Get Away with Murder season 4: Is Connor going to stay out of school?
In How to Get Away with Murder, Connor has often circled around the peripheral of the main plotlines, and now it seems like the show might change that.
Normally, as we here at Culturess approach a new episode of How to Get Away with Murder, we take a look at a few different storylines, but this week, it’s time to talk about one character. If you’ve taken a look at our coverage, you know we have a soft spot for Connor Walsh. The latest development for his storyline, his two dads arriving, even made our top three takeaways for last week’s episode.
Despite being a member of the Keating 4, Connor isn’t always as central to the key storylines of the show. Sometimes it’s because he wasn’t there; sometimes it’s because he doesn’t want to be a part of anything involved with Annalise Keating. However, his decision to simply drop out of Middleton Law is the biggest attempt at a breakout yet, and it seems like he’s going to at least try to make it stick.
At the same time, though, the show would likely have a tough time keeping him in the loop. How to Get Away with Murder has always had interweaving plotlines, but it’s already extremely far-flung with everyone moving to different firms and positions in this season. If this continues, it’ll be harder to justify Connor interacting with non-Oliver characters (and maybe Asher, too, but even Asher seems pretty done with Connor’s current favorite entertainment).
However, the show also can’t just have him change his mind by the end of this week’s episode, not without presenting some very good (and probably money-based) ultimatums. How to Get Away with Murder hasn’t always shown that it’s capable of handling this kind of characterization. Things feel a bit more measured and considered this season in a way they haven’t before, presumably to go along with the new approach detailed ahead of the premiere.

Perhaps the plan is to wrap him back in with the flash-forward. Michaela showed up in last week’s installment, after we saw Laurel first. Can Connor and Asher be far behind?
