Star Trek: Discovery season 1 episode 5 recap: Choose Your Pain

Every week, Star Trek: Discovery has us wanting more and more. And this week, we were left with quite the cliffhanger of an episode.

Captain Lorca is missing, the crew of the Discovery is stuck in Klingon space and we finally got space boyfriends, so this week, Star Trek was pretty exciting. While Captain Lorca goes on a mission, he gets captured by a Klingon ship.

There, he meets Ash, another Starfleet officer who joins him, and the two, eventually, escape from their confinement together. Ash is an interesting character. He’s being abused by the Klingon captain of the ship and he clings to Lorca because he doesn’t want to lose another captain.

Meanwhile, on the Discovery, the crew realizes the creature they’d captured to use as their eyes with the spore technology is dying because of it. So Paul and Michael are trying to find another way to use the technology despite their acting captain’s wishes.

And, for those who have been waiting, we finally get a glimpse at space boyfriends. Paul and Hugh have their little moment as a couple at the end of the episode because Paul decides to save himself with the spore technology. Basically, Paul uses the DNA from the creature and jumps the ship out of Klingon space. So his doctor boyfriend is nervous about him and all seems well and cute. Until they both finish brushing their teeth to get ready to go to bed.

Once they walk away, Paul’s reflection remains in the mirror. What does it mean? We’re not exactly sure. It could mean him using the spore technology was a terrible idea or it could mean something even worse.

We’ll just have to wait and see what comes of Paul and the rest of the crew of the Discovery.
