Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Let’s meet somebody new

Is it too late to introduce someone new on Game of Thrones? Of course not. It’s time to take a look at what might be in play with this new actor.

Warning: Should you like to remain completely without Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers, this is not the place for you. Consider yourself warned!

Things are happening for Game of Thrones season 8. Watchers on the Wall now reports that The Golden Company’s leader, Harry Strickland, now has an actor by the name of Marc Rissman in the role for two episodes (also known as one-third) of season 8.

We actually predicted we’d meet the Golden Company this past season, since they merited mentions here and there throughout, but we suppose it’s just better to be early than to be late. As WOTW notes, and as we pointed out in our own predictions, Cersei wants to employ the company.

On the note of mercenary leaders, though, it might be an interesting way to parallel Daenerys’ old relationship with Daario Naharis. Bear with us for a second here. Daario was one of the leaders of the Second Sons, and his infatuation helped Daenerys out in a number of ways (namely, he stuck around and also started a romance with her).

With Jon now not quite in the same class as Daenerys and Cersei, Game of Thrones has a unique opportunity to compare and contrast its female leads with this casting. Peter Dinklage might be first in the billing as of last season, but we’ve made the argument before that the show is trending female. A dynamic between Cersei and Harry could very well end up being quite the complex thing, especially with her possible pregnancy.

She relates to Euron on a similar level thanks to his professed desire to marry her, and that same flirtatious-on-one-end relationship might just let her sweet-talk a better rate for the Golden Company. (We emphasize might, though.)

Even if their discussions with one another don’t take that sort of tone, it’s again a way to ask the audience to compare Daenerys and Cersei. How do they act with their actual employees, not just advisors?

Oh, it also probably means that there are giant battle scenes in our future … but that’s pretty obvious.
