Star Trek: Discovery takes us on a journey of finding a place for Michael Burnham. Will she fit in on the Discovery or will fighting ensue?
The next episode of Star Trek: Discovery gave us what we finally wanted. No, really, we finally got to see the Discovery. Meeting the crew of the ship is daunting and a lot of the episode feels as if we’re just watching this group of people and introducing ourselves to them.
But that doesn’t mean there isn’t some amazing moments. Basically the episode is all about Michael Burnham showing the crew of the DiscovIery that she’s trustworthy. After being labeled as a mutinist, she has to try and show those she’s now working with that she’s the best Starfleet officer she can be.
In the episode, we meet Anthony Rapp’s character Lt. Stamets and Burnham is working underneath him, by Captain Lorca (Jason Isaacs). When they have to go to a fellow Starfleet ship that has lost its crew, Michael proves herself to Stamets, her new roomate Cadet Tilly, and the rest of the expedition as they aim to grab a necessary part of their scientific journey as well as defeating (in their eyes) a creature that completely tore apart the other crew.
To me, this episode felt a little more like Star Trek. It wasn’t about mutiny and it wasn’t fighting within the crew. Yes there are tensions aboard the Discovery but it wasn’t the focal point of the show. These characters are there to help further Starfleet’s mission, which is more what I expect to see out of a Star Trek show.
