It gets an animated makeover as one talented artist reimagines Pennywise in his terrifying anime form during that iconic sailboat scene. Check it out below.

In addition to crossing $500 million domestically, It is now the highest-grossing R-rated horror film, and shortly, will take over The Sixth Sense as the highest-grossing supernatural film. Now that I’ve seen it twice, I get why it’s such a phenomenon.

I mean, Stephen King has that power regardless and It was always really popular, thanks in part to Tim Curry’s iconic performance. However, this new version comes courtesy of Andres Muschietti and Bill Skarsgard’s pointed smile. What makes the film’s success even crazier is that it was created on a $35 million dollar budget. Its success, combined with Wonder Woman‘s stellar performance this summer, obviously makes Warner Bros. super happy.

So far, both Muschietti and Skarsgard will be part of the sequel, which will premiere in September 2019. Of course, that’s a really long time to wait to see “Chapter Two”. Even if we could easily read the book to find out what happens. In the meantime, the creative train keeps on chugging along as people find creative ways to re-interpret Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

The one we’re looking at today, thanks to io9, reimagines Pennywise in anime form. Check it out below.

Now, what makes the original (stunning) drawing more terrifying is the voice and the way the scene was captured. Most of the attention remains on the boat, instead of putting all the emphasis on just Pennywise and his horrifying yellow eyes or bunny teeth. As the audience, we really can imagine the dilemma Georgie would’ve faced. I mean, on one hand, he didn’t want to upset his brother by losing the boat. But on the other hand, just look at Pennywise — so inviting, right?
