What if James Potter never died and it was just him and Harry?

James Potter’s death was the start of this series. We learned everything from Harry having to live with the Dursley’s but what if he survived?

James Potter died trying to protect Lily and his son. But what if he never died? I know that that is a bit over the top since part of Harry’s character is that he’s alone and he finds his family. But if James was there, there would still be a struggle.

Basically Harry and James would both have to organize their lives around the fact that Lily was no longer there. And it’d be hard for James since he’d have to look at Harry every day and see his wife’s eyes reflected back into his own.

I don’t think that James would blame Harry but I do think that there would be a way harder transitional period for them both. And as we’ve seen in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Harry is dramatic and doesn’t really have a way to stop himself from lashing out.

James and Harry would have struggled and it would have still given us the Harry we know and love but maybe he would have had someone to turn to when things got exceptionally bad too.

I think their dynamic could have been something really special for us to see but, instead, he sacrificed himself for his entire family. Again, another amazing aspect of his character so yes, we didn’t get him to have this special relationship with Harry, but still.

So while James didn’t survive, it would have been nice. And Harry ended up making his own family but still. Having his father there and struggling on without Lily would have been an interesting dynamic I would have loved to see.
