Ernie Macmillan may seem like the worst but he has some redeeming qualities

A pompous Hufflepuff, Ernie Macmillan may not be the best character in the Harry Potter series. But he has some good things about him.

You might not remember the character of Ernie Macmillan. He was annoying, he wasn’t really ever in the action, and no one really cared about him. But there are some qualities he has that makes him a very interesting character.

First off, he’s a Hufflepuff. Which is interesting since he’s not the loyal sweet kind of Hufflepuff we’re used to. If anything, I would have thought him to be a Slytherin over a Hufflepuff. But here we are.

More importantly, his Boggart was interesting. Most people in class had clowns or their grandmother or even Snape. But not Ernie. Ernie’s was Lord Voldemort himself, which shows a lot about Ernie’s character as a whole.

He doesn’t chose something his friends would, he isn’t one of those kids who has a giant spider as his Boggart. Instead, he has his as the darkest wizard of their age. Says a lot about him, right?

The thing that Pottermore points out about Ernie that is interesting is that he gets passionate about his ideals and it makes him, in the eyes of other students, a snitch.

"The problem is, Ernie usually believes what he’s saying to be true, and he can be very passionate about his opinions, especially when he thinks someone’s up to no good."

So if you haven’t revisited the books in a while, do and maybe pay attention to Ernie Macmillan. He’s not that bad as you remember (if you remember him). He just wants his opinions to be heard and maybe he isn’t the best at expressing them without sounding a bit too angry.
