Opinion piece: Ron Weasley is just an okay character

Growing up, everyone had their favorite Harry Potter character and, for me, Ron Weasley was just always an okay character.

Sometimes, despite how much you love the Harry Potter series (or a series in general), you have to admit that something or someone in it is just fine. For me, it isn’t that simple. Because my ‘he’s fine’ character is a fan favorite and I’ll probably get a lot of hate for this opinion.

Remember kids, this opinion is solely my own and I’m not bashing him, I just think he’s fine and not my favorite. But for me, personally, Ron Weasley is not the greatest character. While Harry is moody and upset about everything (and kind of rightfully so), Ron uses his humor to sometimes be rude and he can be just as moody as Harry.

Remember their two huge fights where the two wouldn’t talk to each other? That’s because they’re both childish and being boys about everything. To be fair, a lot of the time Harry does stuff that makes me roll my eyes too.

I think that the Harry Potter series has secondary characters that are almost more appealing than the core characters. Like most of us have our favorites and most of the time, they’re not the Golden Trio. Well, that’s not entirely true because Hermione Granger is perfect and should never change.

Now it’s not that I don’t like Ron. I do. I just like him the least of the trio. Hermione, again, is perfect. Harry is my sweet drama queen. And Ron is fine. As a kid, I probably never would have said this. Even though I wanted Hermione to end up with Harry.

Next: Arthur Weasley loved muggles but does he still love a rubber duck?

Still though, there isn’t really a bad character in the Harry Potter series. Not bad in the moral sense but bad in that we hate the character because of how it is written. Which is a testament to Rowling’s writing.
