Hermione Granger did teach us ladies how to be brave and use our intelligence to our advantage. But is she a feminist icon?
Let’s stop and think about Hermione Granger for a second. Outspoken, well read, ready to stand up for what she believes in no matter the cost to her. And while she doesn’t really care much about her looks, at least movie Hermione is also exceptionally beautiful at times.
Does this mean that Hermione is the perfect example of the modern day feminist? I’d say so. From movie and book Hermione to Cursed Child Hermione, we have a pretty good range of different kinds of feminists.
And she does a wonderful job of not only being the reason either Ron or Harry survive but she also doesn’t really demean either man. Which would be easy since Hermione truly is the brains of the operation.
So while we think that Hermione is great and everything she does is perfect, there might be more to her than what meets the eye. Rowling herself is outspoken about her political views and does everything in her power to make herself stand out.
Which I think translates quite nicely to Hermione. And when you look at most modern day feminists, most of us grew up reading the Harry Potter series so we might have learned a lot about ourselves from Hermione Jane Granger herself.
Look I’m not saying that Hermione is the focal point of the women’s rights movement. But I am saying that I think a lot of modern day feminist ideals have come from what we learned from Hermione. We see that series and how those boys end up treating her with respect and awe (since, after all, she did save them multiple times) and we long for that same respect.

So is it safe to say that Hermione Granger is a feminist icon? I think so. After all, where would Ron or Harry be without her?
