When is too long to love Harry Potter? Are we going to be in our 80s still pining for more information on the boy who lived?
This is going to be a strange piece because I’m very interested in fandom ages. For instance, yesterday there was a meet and greet with the star from Outlander and most of the fans are older woman and they’re waiting outside.
For Harry Potter, most of us were young when it started. We were just little kids in love with a book series. But does that mean we’re going to be weird adults in love with all things Potter? Not that that is a bad thing. In fact, to love something for that long is incredible.
But it frightens me to think that one day, we’ll all wake up and realize that we don’t love this series that meant so much to us anymore. That’s all a part of growing up, but still. Harry Potter has, seemingly, been with us all through everything in our lives, so what if there is someday when it doesn’t quite mean the same to us?
I’m sure Rowling has more up her sleeve to continue the series but even the premiere for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them didn’t feel the same. There wasn’t an urgency to see it at the midnight premiere like there had been with the original films.
So if the light we let burn for so long fading? I personally hope it isn’t. Mainly because this book series means the absolute world to me and I don’t know where I’d be without it.
