The Internet is canceling Sebastian Stan after a bad joke

We all love Sebastian Stan but his latest Instagram post has left us shaken, since he seemed to think “take a knee” jokes are okay.

Sebastian Stan has been the Internet’s boyfriend for quite some time but now he’s on thin ice, which would have been a better joke then the one he made on Instagram yesterday. The Captain America: Civil War star is going to be in I Tonya, about the famed knee breaking of Nancy Kerrigan.

So with all the “Take a Knee” tweets going around, Stan thought making a joke about it would be clever marketing for a movie that doesn’t come out for months. When told it was offensive, he made a comment that it wasn’t his intention, but left the post up before finally deleting it.

However, the Internet has screenshots of his current take, which includes commenting on others’ posts.

The meme in question showed a photo of Tonya Harding next to Nancy Kerrigan, captioned “Back when ‘taking a knee’ meant taking a knee.”

Here’s my thing about it all: it would be clever if the situation were not so serious. Everything with the “take a knee” movement is very sensitive. So it really isn’t the time for clever little jokes to try and promote a movie.

Even if the movie was coming out soon, it still wouldn’t really be a great idea. Most fans just wanted it taken down and an apology but Sebastian still has it up. So, of course, the Internet has cried “cancel him” and continue to bring up ‘dirt’ on him. You don’t even need to look further than just searching his name on Twitter, although some fans are still expressing support, especially since he’s apologized.

The whole thing just made us fans go “Come on, Sebastian. Why?” because honestly, why? Again, the movie isn’t even coming out until December so it isn’t like it is relevant. And with how high tensions are right now, do we really need something like this making everything worse?

So while I’m not canceling him just yet, many fans are rightfully upset with his post. It looks like he’s gotten the message, though, with all his apologies.
