Episode 2

We find ourselves in the midst of a Vulcan battle that Philippa and the rest of the crew did not want to engage in. But it wasn’t really their choice and Michael was only doing what she knew best. So Captain Georgiou did what she thought was best too. Which means putting Michael on leave and sending her away from the bridge.

Starfleet isn’t meant to fight

In quite a twist, the Roddenberry rule is inflicted in an interesting way. The whole point of the rule is to not have the internal conflict to be within the crew. And that was made clear by the fighting causing mass destruction because Michael was, in the end, right about the Klingons.

One of the officers on the bridge is injured and has to go see sick bay and there, he is sucked out into space while telling Michael that it is not the Starfleet way to fight. And in a strange specific connection, Michael mindmelds with Sarek from across lightyears.

Klingons are the greatest warriors in the galaxy

Now don’t forget that these Starfleet officers are not us. They don’t understand that the Klingons are not to be toyed with. Instead, they try and take them on only to learn to quickly that that was a mistake.

So now they have a bigger problem on their hand: What to do with T’Kuvma? Michael makes it back to the bridge and her and Philippa come up with a plan to take him as their prisoner, use him as leverage against the Klingons for the Federation.

Because if they kill him, he becomes a martyr. Or at least, that was the theory until Michael was transported back to the Shenzhou without her body. So is Philippa really dead? Who knows.

Life imprisoned

Because of her mutiny, Michael is sentenced to life in prison. But it is Star Trek and she is our main character so do we really think that lasts very long? Well, from the looks of the trailer for the season, no.

She does end up on the Discovery next time but we’ll have to see where the journey lies ahead for Michael Burnham.
