Star Trek: Discovery had a promotional moment in NYC and it was fine

Everyone is gearing up for the new Star Trek series. And while promotions are important, this one lacked a lot of flair and excitement.

When it comes to Star Trek, you have over 50 years of fans that are more than likely going to watch your show. They’re going to enjoy whatever you bring to the universe and, even if they don’t really like it, they’ll still watch because it is a series they love.

So Star Trek: Discovery has been using that with their promotions for the new show. They’ve been relying on the fact that it is, in fact, a part of the Star Trek series and that’s pretty much it. So when the official Twitter account tweeted about a cool promotion happening along the Hudson River, I had to go.

Now, in retrospect, there is a big part of me that wishes I never saw the tweet and didn’t go. Why? Well, because all it was was a helicopter flying around the tiniest version of the Discovery in the middle of the night.

At one point it was so high up in the sky that we couldn’t see anything.

The description on the official Twitter said it would ‘light up the sky’ but all it did was make it look like a little blip was flying around unless you really zoomed in. Even then it was impossible to get a good image of it.

What kind of promotion makes it impossible to take pictures? What would have been better is if they just projected the Starfleet symbol in the sky. Then I would have been really excited.

Star Trek: Discovery premieres Sept. 24 at 8:30 on CBS with subsequent episodes airing on CBS All Access weekly. And while the promotion might not be up to par, this is one show you don’t want to miss.
