Linda Hamilton will return for James Cameron’s Terminator reboot

After the 2015 Terminator movie left much to be desired, James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s reboot will see the return of Linda Hamilton herself.

Practically the Luke Skywalker of her own franchise, no one can argue Linda Hamilton’s impact on movie heroines thanks to her portrayal of Sarah Connor in the first two Terminator films. Even if you’re not a huge fan of the franchise, most people tick off Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley as iconic women in sci-fi and genre films. So much so, that Wonder Woman‘s success saw James Cameron specifically call back to the aforementioned heavyweights when knocking down Wonder Woman‘s triumphs.

Nevertheless, he said what he said and he’s willing to put his money where his mouth is, apparently.

While we all know that Terminator: Genisys wasn’t exactly the movie we all deserved, it did beckon Cameron back to the franchise he started. Last year, he announced his return and even convinced Tim Miller to jump off Deadpool 2 to join him. (That’s not exactly how it happened, but if you’re going to leave Deadpool 2 for something, let it be Terminator.)

Now, since we all know that California’s ex-governor is the one and only person who ought to play a Terminator (for better or worse), it made sense that he’d return as well. Further proving this point, not one, but two Game of Thrones actors have tried to play Sarah Connor. And neither really did her justice, making it all the more apparent that only one actress could truly call herself Sarah Connor.

Linda Hamilton, of course. At a special event in Los Angeles, Cameron announced her return for his Terminator reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he also shared:

"“We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story. We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters but we’ll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it.”"

Again, like Luke Skywalker, Hamilton’s return will act as an official passing of the baton. And unofficially, it will serve as Cameron’s attempt to show everyone else up in Hollywood.

So while no release date has been set, don’t act like you’re not anxiously planning the day when you’ll see Sarah Connor’s big-screen return. Hopefully, done the right way.
