Taylor Swift Song of the Week: ‘Treacherous’

The leaves are falling and the seasons are changing. That can only mean one thing in the Swift world. Red is now on a continuous loop and our song of the week this week is “Treacherous”.

There’s something hauntingly beautiful about Taylor Swift’s “Treacherous”. The track is hushed confessional beauty at its finest but rises to power as one of the most standout tracks on Red. It’s rise to power is evident in the end with the buildup of percussion and guitars. To be honest, the song is a hidden gem and certainly doesn’t get enough credit.

“Treacherous” is the third track on Red and was written by Swift and Dan Wilson. Wilson also produced the song. Upon the release of Red, the song peaked at No.102 and 65 in the U.S. and Canada. It also reached No.26 on the U.S. country charts.

It hints at being influenced by Coldplay, which is a good thing. The topic for discussion is surprising as this is the first time Swift writes on a more mature level since “Fifteen”. All in all, it’s an outstanding track that deserves all the attention it gets. It’s emotional, raw, beautiful and relatable to everyone who decides to listen.

Also, if you haven’t heard the song live, you are missing out. There is nothing better to experience than Swift singing “Treacherous” and quite literally walking up a slope whilst performing it. You can watch the performance below.
