Josh Duhamel and Fergie are splitting up, and we’re bummed

In an exclusive with People, Josh Duhamel and Fergie revealed that after eight years of marriage, they decided to split earlier this year.

There’s a weird feeling of sadness whenever a celebrity couple splits up, especially if they’ve been together for a while.

In January, Josh Duhamel and Fergie celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary. The two gushed about each other on social media and shared photos on Instagram.

But as anyone who uses social media should know, appearances can be deceiving. Although neither party has spoken about when exactly they decided to split, they did state that they wanted to wait a while before making an announcement in order to protect their family’s privacy.

On Sept. 14, the couple confirmed to People exclusively that they are definitely going their separate ways. In a joint statement, Josh Duhamel and Fergie said:

"With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year. To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family."

The couple met on the set of Las Vegas when The Black Eyed Peas did a guest appearance in 2004. Duhamel’s first words to Fergie were apparently “you’re hot.” Since then, they’ve spent 13 years as a couple. They married in 2009 and Us Weekly featured a massive photo spread of the ceremony, as well as pictures from before and after.
