Harry Potter and 9/11: What the series meant to me

facebooktwitterreddit

I started reading the Harry Potter series right before 9/11 happened. So, to me, there is something that helps me personally though this day.

When I was reading the Harry Potter series for the first time, 9/11 happened. For those who aren’t American, you obviously know what happened on this day but you might not know the feelings associated with that day. I was someone who had my mother fly into New York City on that day.

So I turned to these books in a time of need. I was upset and continued to push through with reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. So this series has come to mean a lot to me because it was there for me in a time when I wasn’t sure what was going.

And I think that’s a very important aspect to this series as a whole. We all have a special moment when it was there for us when we weren’t sure what was happening in our lives. Whether it is a national disaster (like 9/11) or just a specific moment in our lives, the Potter series was there for us.

Granted maybe not everyone has this aspect. Maybe you didn’t have something terrible happen to you that made the Harry Potter series more important to you. But we all have that instance where we love it more because of something that was happening in our lives.

It is important to remember what this series truly means to us all. We turn to it always in times of need and that, in turn, makes the series that much more important.
