Brienne of Tarth is still one of the coolest characters in Game of Thrones, and we’d like to see her play a bigger part in season 8.
For the most part, Brienne of Tarth had a quiet season 7 of Game of Thrones. Sure, she had a scene practicing with Arya, and she might very well have knocked some sense into Jaime Lannister (metaphorically, not literally, though it would have been cool for it to be literal too).
Brienne will never be one of the central characters in the series. After all, she doesn’t belong to one of the great houses of the Seven Kingdoms. She’s a lady knight and has gotten all kinds of nonsense for it basically from her first appearance in the show.
In terms of season 7, she finds herself in about the same position she started it in: part of Sansa Stark’s retinue, sworn to keep both her and Arya safe, and presumably more loyal to the two of them rather than Jon Snow, which certainly does not hurt for either Arya or Sansa, though Arya can defend herself. For that and her excellent moments, she gets a solid B+ — not a lot of moving and shaking, but an above-average performance that keeps her safe.
But is it too much to ask for her to get some more screen time in season 8?
We know it’s at a premium, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have an excellent back-to-back moment with Jaime Lannister (or Tormund, provided he isn’t dead, or both of them just to watch Jaime’s reactions to Tormund talking to Brienne) in battle at minimum. She can offer advice (it might not always be good advice, but it’s advice).
As we said when we talked about Jaime, she has actual combat experience. It’s more one-on-one, more like Arya, but she’s still a warrior and her Valyrian steel sword will be needed in the fights to come.
Next: GoT: Will Jaime stay on the outside looking in?
Seriously, Game of Thrones, embrace the badass that is Brienne.
