The Powerpuff Girls get a fourth member, and the day is saved
By Sundi Rose
The city of Townsville just got a little safer now that the Powerpuff Girls went from a fierce, crimefighting trio to a kickass foursome.
Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will welcome a fourth member to the butt-kicking, villain-fighting team later this month. The long-running animated series plans to take on a new sister to fight Townsville’s worst bad guys, and reactions are mixed.
Cartoon Network will unveil the fourth Powerpuff Girl during the premiere episode of the five-part movie event, The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four, airing Sunday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
The genetically-modified, cute, and strong threesome will have to learn to fight as a foursome now. We don’t know much about the new addition, except her hair is glorious and her silhouette is stunning. However, it’s a safe bet that she’s probably made with sugar, spice, everything nice, and Chemical X.
Some fans are feeling a little uneasy about this shakeup. But, truthfully, we don’t know if she will even stick around long enough to change things very much. It doesn’t seem like she’ll be fighting against the girls. But you never really know what sorts of shenanigans the villains of Townsville will pull.
"“this epic event kicks off when the Powerpuff Girls’ life as superheroes are turned upside down—and all four Powerpuff Girls must band together and use their strengths and smarts to save their beloved city of Townsville from forces of evil that are bigger than ever.”"
Some fans are a little less excited than others. They cite a consistency error with the new announcement that claims their already is a fourth. Loyal PPG viewers remember Bunny as the actual fourth Powerpuff Girl. As one does, they are taking to the internet to express their outrage.
On the other hand, others are willing to make exceptions. If the newest member of the crime fighting trio was a person of color, it might take the sting out of changing such a beloved institution. Rumors are swirling already, and this might be just the way to get purists onboard with a new normal.

At least we don’t have to wait long to find out about the newest member of Townsville. The five-part mini-movie will begin on Sept. 17 at 5:30/4:30 CT on Cartoon Network.
