Many of us awaited our eleventh (or twelfth, or thirteenth, or twentieth) birthday wanting that one letter. Your Hogwarts letter.
The green ink, the parchment paper, and especially that superbly accurate address that’s just a little creepy…it’s every Harry Potter fan’s dream to get it in the mail. or by owl. Now, thanks to an upcoming Harry Potter auction, we have a chance at a real letter.
According to TMZ, “The 7-inch envelope addressed to Harry at “The Cupboard Under the Stairs, 4, Privet Drive,” is being sold through Prop Store, a movie collectible auction house.”
A real, live, acceptance letter used in the Harry Potter movies. The actual letter that Hagrid handed Harry is being sold for auction on September 26th. The auction takes place in London, but you can bid from home. But bid wisely! It’s expected to go for anywhere between $4,000 and $6500.
So, if you have a couple thousand pounds or dollars to spare, you can own the one of a kind acceptance letter. This would definitely take any cosplay up a few notches.
However, if you’re like most of us and are college students or have bills to pay and can’t spend a couple thousand dollars on a movie prop, there are other options. Such as using this here, where you can download the letter right to Word and customize it yourself. Who needs movie props?! Now you can say you’ve had your own customized.
For a sense of sentimentality, here’s the scene where the Dursley’s Home get’s filled with letters, and everything goes crazy. I still don’t know why Harry didn’t decide to just pick one up off the floor and hide it!
What do you think about having the shot at a real Hogwarts letter? How much would you pay for a prop from the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone movie set?
