Heading into the Oscars, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land was expected to essentially sweep the categories. As the night went on, it became clear that the film had been pretty overestimated, but it was still expected to take home Best Picture. And then…it didn’t.

Okay, it did, but only for about 30 angry and panicked seconds. It was then announced that Barry Jenkins’s Moonlight had actually won the most coveted award of the night.

Jenkins created an intimate, relevant story with a low budget in comparison to the film’s fellow nominees. With a budget like that of Star Wars, Jenkins could have a field day, and still craft an expert continuation of the Star Wars story.

It’d also have the potential to give fans a chance to see Jenkins’s more whimsical side.
