Ava DuVernay
Following the success of films like Selma, Ava DuVernay has amassed quite a following. Now, she’s directed A Wrinkle In Time, arguably the most anticipated film of next spring. The movie not only boasts heavy star power, bringing vibrant characters to life, but also promises huge action sequences driven by incredible effects.
If you don’t believe me, check out the trailer:
She’s already used to an outer space-driven setting, and with the looks of Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit (Mindy Kaling, Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon respectively), Ava could have some serious fun with the alien characters of the Star Wars universe.
DuVernay also has a short, but impressive, history of directing episodes of TV shows, including Queen Sugar and Scandal. If she’s brilliant enough for Shonda Rhimes, then count me in.
And hey, as Entertainment Weekly so graciously pointed out, Ava has already had some influence in the Star Wars universe.
