In a little more than a week since its release, Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” has smashed records left and right. Are we surprised that it just broke another one?
The release of “Look” was driven by a cryptic marketing campaign that got everyone talking. “Look,” the lead single off Swift’s forthcoming record reputation broke tons of first day records on YouTube, Spotify, Vevo and iTunes. It also drew the biggest weekly streaming and sales numbers for a single this year.
Without interviews or media attention from Swift herself, “Look” just continues to smash and is now the number one song in the country. It has broken Adel’s record (61.6M streams) for the most streamed debut the first week by a female artist with 84.4M streams total. Not to mention, “Look” has ended the month-long reign of Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” on the Hot 100 charts. This makes Swift the first female to top the charts this year according to Billboard.
Meanwhile, Swift has released the opening track off reputation entitled “…Ready For It?” She premiered a sneak peek for the track on Saturday night during the Alabama vs Florida State college football game. The song is certainly different from “Look” but we won’t be surprised once it smashes records too.
With the amount of success Swift has already had during this era, we won’t be surprised to see the numbers during release week. It’s said that she will just miss the sales Adele made with 25 but we beg to differ. We predict it’ll outsell Adele by a large amount. What do you think?
reputation hits stores November 10.
