Another royal baby for William and Kate is on its way
Kensington Palace confirmed Monday morning that William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are expecting baby number three.
It’s been a bittersweet week for the British royal family. On Thursday, people around the world commemorated the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death with somber reflection in documentaries and TV specials, but also with great admiration and thanks for all the good the late People’s Princess brought into the world. And now the week is getting another dose of royal sweetness as Kensington Palace officially confirmed Monday morning that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka William and Kate) are expecting Diana’s third grandchild.
It would typically be a little early to announce the pregnancy, but as with Kate’s previous two pregnancies, she’s again suffering from severe morning sickness, or Hyperemesis Gravidarum. She already had to cancel on a planned appearance Monday, the statement from the palace said.
According to People, the new baby will knock Prince Harry down to sixth in line for the throne after his father Charles, his brother William, his nephew George, his niece Charlotte, and the new baby. For the first time ever, even if the baby is a boy, he wouldn’t take his older sister Charlotte’s place in line for the throne, thanks to a rule passed in 2011. In the past, the fact that a royal baby was a boy trumped birth order. Luckily that’s no longer the case.
Kate is estimated to be about three months along in her pregnancy. Like the last two times, the eyes of the world will surely be on the little family as it grows.
