Paul Bettany in Chicago: Talking Infinity War and the future of Vision and Scarlet Witch

Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced Vision, a fan favorite character played by Paul Bettany. Stopping by Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago, Bettany discussed Vision’s development, and his dynamic with Elizabeth Olsen.

Avengers: Infinity War may feel far off, but more and more details are dropping each week and the hype is of galactic proportions. We now know for sure that both Jon Favreau and Gwyneth Paltrow will be returning for the film.

And, last weekend, Paul Bettany – the actor portraying Vision – appeared in Chicago at Wizard World Comic Con for a Q&A with fans.

Though the big question is how his mind stone will come into play when the Avengers take on Thanos, it took less than five minutes for the conversation to turn toward the most anticipated relationship in the MCU: Vision and Scarlet Witch.

Of course, Bettany couldn’t dive too far into details, at the risk of facing Marvel’s wrath, but he did acknowledge the fun of their increasing interactions.

“I think, for both Lizzie and I, it’s the most exciting plotline of each of us so far,” Bettany said.

Olsen herself was scheduled to attend the Con, but had to cancel due to reshoots. Bettany noted that he’ll be returning in September to continue filming. “This is the biggest production I’ve ever been on…ever,” he added.

Though most of the Q&A was MCU-driven, Bettany was happy to field questions about his role in A Knight’s Tale, revealing that revealing himself was one of the most challenging aspects.

Comedy aside, Bettany touched briefly on his time working with Heath Ledger. He addressed the legacy of Ledger, including his brilliant performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight, making one thing clear: Heath’s spirit was always bright.

"“Heath was just a ray of sunshine. He really was. He loved to have fun,” Bettany said. “Don’t believe all the nonsense about the darkness. I never saw it, not once.”"
