The Bride’s Wedding, Kill Bill

Death, death, and more death; unfortunately, most of pop culture’s most memorable weddings stand out in our minds for tragic reasons.

Tragic is certainly the right word to describe what happens to Uma Thurman’s “Bride” on her wedding day. Having previously trained alongside her master (and lover Bill) with the assassin group Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, the Bride (Beatrix Kiddo) has left the Vipers behind to start over in El Paso, Texas.

We see her, pregnant, rehearsing for her wedding to Tommy Plympton. In Vol. 1, Bill and the Vipers appear to crash her wedding rehearsal out of nowhere and proceed to murder everyone in attendance. The Bride is shot in the head and falls into a coma.

In Vol. 2, we see more of the lead-up to the scene, wherein Bill arrives and pretends to give the Bride his blessing before the murders commence.

Okay, so technically, this one is a wedding rehearsal, not a wedding. But, hey, she’s wearing her veil! It’s also the only wedding event on this list where the bride is shot in the head. (Don’t worry; her unborn daughter, B.B., survives!)

While that’s  memorable enough in and of itself, Kiddo’s hunt for vengeance that follows makes for one of the best stories in movie history.
