Netflix and chill takes on a whole new meaning with this line of show-inspired cannabis strains

Disjointed recently debuted on Netflix and now the streaming giant is taking its love of the sticky icky just a little bit further with new TV show-based strains of cannabis.

Cannabis is legal now in California and a handful of other states for recreational use.  Netflix, knowing there is a huge audience to be gained by embracing it, has done just that.

In honor of their new hit Disjoined starring Kathy Bates, Netflix has teamed up with a California dispensary to release a line of new cannabis strains. The new varieties of marijuana will be available for purchase on Friday when the West Hollywood pop up shop opens according to Business Insider.

There are thousands of strains on the market so just randomly releasing a new cannabis strain isn’t all that exciting. What makes these interesting is that the Netflix supported strains are all named after their own shows.

Netflix embraces cannabis, pairs strains with programming

There are 10 new strains in all, with three of them being directly inspired by Disjointed. Others include Camp Firewood, a strain that was inspired by Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later. Banana Stand Kush is for Arrested Development, and Prickly Muffin, which pays homage to Bojack Horseman.

Other Netflix hits to get their own variety of greenery include The Santa Clarita Diet and Grace and Frankie. Even tear-jerker Poussey Riot is inspired by Orange Is The New Black.

It doesn’t really matter which genre viewers prefer to stream, there is something for every marijuana connoisseur to indulge in as they sit back and watch their favorite Netflix programming.

To a novice, this may seem like a cute marketing scheme but there’s way more to it. Even Netflix knows that different strains of marijuana can produce different effects for the user. When they were planning the new strains, special consideration was given to the performance of the cannabis in relation to the show it was inspired by.  This was explained in the statement from Netflix about the newest offering.

“Each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone,” the Netflix press release said. “For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate.”

This makes a lot of sense since Sativas are known to have uplifting and even energizing effects. Indicas tend to be much sleepier and produce feelings of calm and peacefulness.

For those who may be concerned about Netflix getting into the cannabis business, it’s worth noting that they don’t plan to make a profit from this project. It has already been made clear that the 10 new Netflix cannabis strains are purely for promotional purposes.
