Star Wars: What does it mean that this character’s done shooting Han Solo?

If Star Wars’ Han Solo movie has already finished shooting the parts featuring what is probably one of the major characters’ roles, is that a good sign?

The Ron Howard era on the Star Wars spinoff featuring Han Solo kicked off a little more than two months ago, but things appear to be going along apace. Thanks to Star Wars News Net, we know that one character has already wrapped up his work: Lando Calrissian (or, more accurately, Donald Glover).

Now, SWNN speculates that this means that Howard’s work fixing the film up is also nearing completion. We’re about to draw two conclusions from that.

First, the scenes featuring Lando were most likely pretty decent as they already stood. Back when the whole hullabaloo started, the word was that most of the movie was decent enough; at the time, we here at Culturess cited a Hollywood Reporter article that suggested that was the case. The original directors, Chris Lord and Phil Miller, went for quite a bit of humor, and Lando has a flirtatious wit to him in the original trilogy anyway. If any character’s scenes needed only minimal fixing, they were probably Lando’s.

Second, this suggests that things are effectively on schedule. That same THR article reported that the new Howard plan was to get everything done by the first week of September, and as we’re writing this, we are approaching Sept. 1. Whether or not the idea is to be done in the first full week of September (that is, Labor Day week here in the United States) or by Sept. 1 is unclear, but we lean towards the former.

For a film that still has a May 25, 2018 release date, it’s good to know that there’s still quite a bit of time to add in all of the effects, editing, and re-recorded dialogue that marks post-production.

And for bonus points, is this the kind of facial hair we can expect Lando to sport in the movie? It’s a scruffier look than Billy Dee Williams’ nice mustache, but as this is supposed to be a younger Lando, it makes perfect sense that he’d have a little more facial hair.
