Game of Thrones season 7: One last look at the episode that was

As hype for the season 7 finale of Game of Thrones reaches its peak, it’s time to take a moment and finish processing episode 6 with the help of art.

Before we get any further, Game of Thrones should just release Robert Ball’s Beautiful Death art series as a coffee-table style book once the entire series is up. For this season, we’ve already talked about some of his pieces, like the one representing Olenna Tyrell, but he’s outdone himself with the piece for “Beyond the Wall.”

Jon Snow’s line, “I wish I could take it back. I wish we’d never gone,” provides the caption for this commemoration.

And why did Jon wish they’d never gone or that he’d never asked Daenerys for aid? Because she lost Viserion doing it:

Ball managed to work in the pattern of Daenerys’ white dress and also pick them up in the mountains below, which he purposefully did as stated in the Making Game of Thrones link above.

As Ball also notes, the idea here is that Daenerys’ three-headed dragon clasp is now permanently destroyed, with Viserion’s metallic head plunging through the ice into the cold water below.

Ball very nicely colored two of the dragon’s heads, though, unlike the all-silver piece Daenerys actually wears in the show. Viserion’s gold and cream is represented accurately, although the creamy white takes on very appropriate bluish tinge considering the dragon’s new eye color. Meanwhile, still in Daenerys’ hands are the red-and-black Drogon as well as Rhaegal, who is more bronze and green than anything else, although he looks grey-and-black here, which makes him contrast with Drogon a bit better than he would normally.

Next: Who will die in the Game of Thrones season finale?

Unsurprisingly, Beric Dondarrion looks absolutely awesome with his flaming sword, even in drawn form. From left to right, it looks like there’s Jon Snow, Tormund Giantsbane, Beric, the Hound, and then Jorah Mormont off to the side.
