Taylor Swift Releases Cryptic New Single

The wait is finally over. Taylor Swift is back with a new song entitled “Look What You Made Me Do”. It’s dark, edgy and in a way, makes us sad.

If you waited until midnight to hear Swift’s highly anticipated lead single from her sixth studio album Reputation, then you were in for a dark treat. Once the song dropped, it had appeared that the singer-songwriter we know and love is long gone. She is no longer the cutesy and bubbly pop princess. She’s darker, edgier, and she’s ready to come for blood.

So what does this mean exactly? We don’t know since we won’t know the full direction of Reputation until November 10 but we do know that if “Look What You Made Me Do” is the introduction to what’s to come, we better get ready for Swift’s darkest era yet.

With this era and the lead single, it looks as if Swift isn’t singing “haters gonna hate” this time around. She’s not dancing on her own or calling out tabloids in a fun, sassy way. No, Swift is getting revenge in a much more cryptic, angrier way. She doesn’t shy away from calling out those who have wronged her or those she once considered friends. No, she’s courageous and brave to call out situations that not many artists would.

She’s bold to call out the media and put them in her place. Swift is even brave enough to kill off the old Taylor as she answers a phone call during the song saying, “I’m sorry the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, cause she’s dead”.

In all honesty, it’s a brilliant track once you listen and analyze it closely. She’s a brilliant songwriter and it’ll be interesting to see what else she has in store for her fans. While we love the song, we can’t help but feel extremely sad that this is what the media has turned Swift into. Watch the lyric video for the track below:
