Get ready, Taylor Swift is tackling her “Reputation” head on with new album
By Buckie Wells
Taylor Swift knows what you think about her. With her new album, Reputation, due for release this November, she wants to tackle all those headlines head on.
It’s been more than a decade since Taylor Swift burst onto the scene. And no matter how long it’s been, I still remember all the lyrics to “Teardrops on My Guitar.” While it’s hard to believe that country girl is the same one who gets blasted for her multiple (alleged? I don’t know) relationships with other musicians and has put out indisputable bangers like “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood,” Taylor Swift’s image continues to evolve.
And as it does, she’s never been shy about using negative media attention to boost her career. “Bad Blood” stemmed from her feud with Katy Perry. Plus, she engaged in feuds with almost every major female musician around, including a few that blew over but remained important conversation starters nonetheless. Like that time she missed the point about Nicki Minaj‘s Twitter tirade regarding the VMAs.
Since those times, Taylor Swift has opted to “exclude herself from the narrative.”
2014 marked the last time she released an album, though that doesn’t mean people haven’t brought her name up a lot over the past three years. We watched her messy split from Calvin Harris, the Kanye West debacle, plus ex-flame Harry Styles’ debut album that kept people guessing day and night if he wrote it about Taylor Swift.
Of course, it’s been a long and bumpy road for anyone who lives on planet Earth and has listened to a Taylor Swift song at least once or twice. Now, here we are.
You know that saying, “If life hands you lemons…” etc? Well, Taylor Swift wants to reclaim it and give it her own personal flare.
It goes like this: When the entire world calls you a snake and questions every move you make, use it as metaphor in your ad campaign to promote your new album, Reputation.
On her Instagram and social media platforms, Swift used a very strong, very undeniable image of a snake to promote her new album, which, as you can see below, will be released on Nov. 10.
Before then, Swift also plans to release a new single on Thursday night. But what I find most arresting about these advertisements is the blank slate (or should I say “Blank Space”?) on which they appear. All of her social media accounts, including her infamous Twitter account, have reset to make it look like Taylor Swift just found the internet yesterday or something.

While her legion of followers appear to be there still, the only posts that can be found happen to be stuff for Reputation.
So even if you’re not totally a Taylor Swift fan, get ready to hear all about her all over again as she takes back her reputation on her own terms.
