Kevin Systrom, Instagram’s CE0 is using Taylor Swift’s account to clean up the internet and it’s working.
Instagram is an interesting place. While it’s supposed to be used to share life experiences, a lot of times, hate can fire from every direction from bullying to horrid comments. We’ve all seen it. This is most evident with Taylor Swift.
Remember the summer of 2016? Snakes began to show up all over Swift’s Instagram account after Kim Kardashian and Kanye West decided to be crude. Ever since then, it had seemed like Swift was losing the battle. But she didn’t. She’s, in fact, winning thanks to Systrom.
The CEO wanted to clean up comments in some way, and he’s using Swift’s account to do this according to WIRED. While Snakes were all over her comments one week, the next week, they began to vanish. The vanishing of snakes was no accident. Throughout the weeks within this taking place, Systrom and his team had quietly built a filter that would automatically delete specific words and slurs aimed at people in comments. The snakes were the first test case.
Now Instagram users can click a button to hide inappropriate comments, which would block certain words from showing up in the comments. This alone handles a great amount of bullying toward, not only Swift but every user on Instagram that may experience bullying of any sort.
Thank you, Instagram for wiping Swift’s comments clean from any hateful comments that could hurt a person. After all, this is a great lesson of how much words and comments can hurt or destroy someone’s year. We applaud the company’s effort.
Swift is due to release new music this Friday.
