What if a woman had directed a Harry Potter movie?

Have you ever stopped to think about how a woman never directed any of the Harry Potter movies? Do you think they’d be different if one had?

Harry Potter is known for giving us some powerful women. From our queen J.K Rowling to Hermione Granger, McGonagall and more, we love them all! But you know what it didn’t give us? A woman director.

And maybe that is just happenstance or a product of the time those movies were created. (It was pre-Patty Jenkins changing the blockbuster game.) But still, why was a woman never even considered? Especially after the mosh-posh that was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

But it just makes you wonder exactly what would have happened if a woman had stepped in to direct one. The story is already about compassion and love (because a woman wrote it) but I wonder how it would have changed the way those films are shot.

Now this isn’t a “men do things differently” rant. But let’s look at Wonder Woman and the success that film has had. That script with the wrong director could have been terrible. But Patty Jenkins knew what she wanted and saw the characters in a certain way that just worked.

Imagine that same dedication and craft in a Harry Potter movie. It’d be pretty incredible right? Well, lucky for us, there is a chance with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Maybe we’ll get a woman taking on this franchise we know and love.

After all, doesn’t this series deserve a female director? We have the strongest females in the game so why not add one to the directing pool? I mean, to be honest, I’d be really into Patty Jenkins taking on Harry Potter next.
