Is this season a Sweet 16 or a drama-filled nightmare? Project Runway’s season 16 premiere airs Aug. 17, but will these designers make it work?
Does anyone else remember the first time that you heard Tim Gunn say “Make it work?” For 16 seasons, the Project Runway mentor has been guiding aspiring designers through the challenges of Project Runway. From the unconventional challenges to the brutal team challenges, the designers put it all on the line to earn the title of Project Runway winner. Now, the Project Runway season 16 premiere is here with a whole new batch of hopeful designers.
While the Project Runway concept remains the same, one huge change is happening to season 16. This season reflects the real world; the models aren’t all a size 0. This season brings in dressing models whose sizes range from size 0 to 22.
Previously, only an episode or two featured real women, with a relatable dress size. Usually, these episodes were met with disdain by the designers. Often that one-off challenge featured quips about the dress form doesn’t reflect a size 12 (or larger). But, the reality happens to be that the majority of women aren’t a size 0-4. Hopeful, y this season is a little more inclusive of the real woman.
According to TV Guide, the premier episode synopsis states:
"In the Season 16 premiere, the designers must create a red-carpet look that demonstrates their fashion point-of-view, but the real surprise comes when the designers learn they will be working with models of all sizes. Guest judge Olivia Munn joins."
How will the designers handle this first challenge? At least, the first episode isn’t an unconventional challenge. So, here’s how to watch.
