Katniss at Helping Strays of Monroe County in Columbia, Illinois

Katniss Everdeen, the Mockingjay, a symbol of resistance in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian future sacrificed everything to overthrow a tyrannical government. She was fierce and unforgiving and intense, willing to fight (to the death) for what she believed in, even if she didn’t believe that condemning kids to die for entertainment was a worthy pursuit of humanity.

Now meet Katniss, described on her adoption page as “an independent kitty with a mind of her own.” Katniss is a fully-grown, adult cat just over two years old, and she’s very eager to find her furever home. Apparently, she’s very sassy — just like her namesake — and very careful about which humans she chooses to befriend. That sounds quite a bit like Katniss Everdeen, too.

This gorgeous, dilute tortoiseshell babe certainly looks skeptical in her photo, but given time to adjust and lots of patience, she’ll make an amazing addition to any home.  In times like these, it’s good to have revolutionaries on your side, and Katniss is named for one of the best of them.

Although Katniss is picky about her human companions, she does get along with other cats, which is ideal for homes that already have fur babies! Katniss Everdeen was a leader, so expect Katniss the cat to be, too, but look forward to lots of quality time once she’s settled into her new life.

If you are interested in adopting Katniss, call the shelter ahead of time. Many of Helping Strays’ animals are in foster care and therefore not at the shelter itself. More information below.
