Shilo at Heartland Pet Connection in Hastings, Nebraska
Remember Shiloh the beagle? He was the titular character in a 1997 Warner Brothers film (which was an adaptation of the 1991 novel) that taught kids about the horrors of animal abuse. As part of a hunter’s dog pack, Shiloh is the runtiest and most mistreated of his pack, and he runs away to find a better home. His new human learns the importance of working for what you believe in and supporting creatures great and small. It still makes us cry, and it’s been 20 years since it was released.
Now meet Shilo, whose name is spelled differently but who looks an awful lot like the beagle in that film. Like all beagles, Shilo likes to explore the countryside and use his superior sniffing skills to hunt rabbits (don’t tell Thumper or Loki!). Of course, he’ll hunt almost anything once he’s got his nose to the ground, so you’ll have some games to invent for Shilo’s amusement if you bring him home.
According to his adoption page, Shilo is a happy, loving, smart dog who enjoys having his mind and nose worked out. He would do well with a fenced in backyard and a human companion who provides structured exercise and play time. He recently had surgery to remove some fatty cysts, but has healed well and is doing just fine.
