The annual Clear the Shelters event takes place on Saturday, Aug. 19, and we’ve rounded up some fur babies named after pop culture who are available for adoption across the country.

Adopt, don’t shop! If you’re interested in bringing home a fur baby of your very own, consider adopting one from a shelter. Saturday, Aug. 19 is the annual Clear the Shelters event, which is a national adoption drive meant to help thousands of animals in need find forever homes.

Of course, shelters host adoption drives all the time, but Clear the Shelters is a concentrated, national effort involving hundreds of shelters. Last year, more than 50,000 pets were adopted! That’s amazing!

The week leading up to the event is big, too. Viral Twitter account WeRateDogs is doing a fundraiser (Clear the H*ckin Shelters) for The Shelter Pet Project and One Tail at a Time. They want to raise $10,000 by Saturday, and they’re already more than halfway there.

If you can’t afford to adopt a fur baby of your own, consider donating to the above fundraiser or a local shelter. You can also volunteer! Shelters are often in need of people to help take care of their animals.

To gear up for the Clear the Shelters adoption drive, we’ve searched through the adoption listings at just some of the participating shelters to find animals named for pop culture. These animals are all looking for forever homes, right now! Once you see them, you might just be inspired to head to your local shelter this weekend.
