Harry Potter and the Neo-Nazis: How fans of the series react to the news

Harry Potter taught us not to conform to one racist ideal in a strange way. We watched the Death Eaters. So now, what about the neo-Nazis?

Never thought you’d see Harry Potter paired with neo-Nazis before did you? Well, let me explain. Fans of the Potter series have a different take on world events. We grew up reading a book series that taught us that racist ideals lead to a world of hatred and fear.

We watched as Voldemort tried in vain to get others to conform to his ideas. So when we see it happening in our real lives, we fight back. With everything happening in Charlottesville, it’s hard to not fight back.

And if you look at the millennial generation (the ones who would have grown up reading the Harry Potter series), we tend to be the ones out there fighting. And maybe it’s because we already watched Voldemort tear apart the wizarding world or maybe it is because we’re just a more compassionate generation but we don’t want to see the continually spread of hatred.

I think that it is in part due to this series. J.K Rowling taught us about love and the importance of friendship and caring about one another. So when we see something so racist and hate-filled as the Charlottesville protests, we want to fight back and how them that love and acceptance makes for a better world.

Also I could be looking too much into this but I just think that these books have done a lot for my generation. We’re more open to one another than any before us ad I truly think we owe a lot of that to Rowling’s work.

Next: Severus Snape is a villain that most definitely didn’t deserve redemption

So continue to fight for what you believe in, that’s what Harry would have done.
