Prince can officially guide us to the Purple Rain with his own color
Prince and purple have been synonymous for years and now Pantone is honoring him with his very own shade of his favorite color.
For years, I always associated the color purple with Prince. And for good reason. It was his trademark. As a child, I loved him and his music and even made my father buy me Purple Rain on VHS for my 6th birthday.
Flashforward to 2017 and Prince has been gone from this world for over a year now. And it’s been pretty dark without him. But thanks to his expansive estate and the Pantone Color Institute, he will live on forever.
That’s right, the Artist Formerly Known As will have his own color. The color will be called Love Symbol #2 and it will, of course, be a shade of purple. Really, did you think it would be anything else? This is Prince we’re talking about.
"While the spectrum of the color purple will still be used in respect to the ‘Purple One,’ Love Symbol #2 will be the official color across the brand he left behind,"
So while it has taken a year, this is still a pretty amazing thing. We lost so many greats in 2016, it’s nice to see them being immortalized in this way. From now on, we’ll always have an official color for him. We can always think of Love Symbol #2 and think of the man who knew a girl named Nikki.
Prince may be gone but his legacy and his music live on. So while this is just a nice tribute to the great musician, it helps us cope and remember what he means to us. And really, who doesn’t love Prince? His music is brilliant and we would be where we are today without it.
